One of the nicest things about exploring unusual holiday destinations, apart from the time you get to spend there of course, is being able to share the experience with your friends when you get home. With the digital video cameras that are available at reasonable prices nowadays, you can record it all in high definition to make it even more lifelike. An HD ready television will be needed to enjoy watching it in this new format though and there are plenty of options to choose from at the moment. Somaliland offers some stunning scenery and great places to explore so makes a very good place to perfect your camera skills and you will be able to take hours of high quality footage there. A big TV to watch it on when you arrive home will really help to convey the atmosphere of actually being there to your friends and family when they watch your masterpiece with you. When choosing equipment to use with your new set you should make sure that it is capable of transmitting uncompressed digital video data to the television. HDMI is the specification that is used for this and should be found on all the latest models. If you are worried about the standard of accommodation in a less developed country such as Somaliland then rest assured that it has more than its fair share of good hotels to choose from that are well equipped, although may not have an HD ready TV in the room.

Putting the finishing touches to your production
If you spend a lot of time shooting on location in Somaliland then you will need to bring some extra equipment with you in order to store all the video that you take and to help you do some basic editing before while there. You will find that a modern laptop, as long as it is reasonably well specified, will be up to the job and can also be used to watch the results in high definition. Among the fascinating places that you can visit while away are the twin hills on the outskirts of the capital city, Hargeisa, that make a great backdrop for some fun action filming. There are also some ancient caves that will look good when viewed on HD ready equipment and have paintings in them that are over eleven thousand years old. It is a good idea to practise your skills before you leave for Somaliland as you will not want to get home only to find that your footage is not as good as you expected it to be and when you view films on an HD TV they can show up minor defects in your technique that you may have got away with on older televisions. The results of a well made film are more than worth the effort though. You should have no problem transporting your equipment to Somaliland, which is well served by several airlines flying to the capital. The locals will probably love to see your HD ready camera too.

What might you find there?
Apart from the ancient cave paintings mentioned above and the twin hills near the capital, there is much more to see in Somaliland that will keep you entertained for the duration of your holiday. Zeilla is a location that has some impressive Ottoman architecture and some tasty cuisine to delight your palate after a day spent discovering the area. An LCD TV may be available in your hotel for you to enjoy a relaxing film when you return in the evening and the room service is always very friendly and efficient. It is still a developing country though so you might not find every modern convenience that you would in some other destinations, although the locals more than make up for this with their delightful attitude. A small TV is fine for most visitors anyway, as they do not want to spend their entire holiday holed up in a hotel room glued to the box. If you have already purchased your new television before you leave for your holiday, you will have plenty of time for all that when you get home anyway. There are a lot of programmes made for HD ready televisions nowadays. The time you spend in Somaliland can be used to really get to know a different culture and see a side of Africa that many will never get to experience. For avid TV fans who just cannot bear to miss their favourite shows, investing in an up to date DVD recorder is a good idea.

What will work well with your new set?
One of the worries when upgrading to new formats in sound and video equipment is whether the new machine is going to make all your old gadgets obsolete. This is not something that should worry you unduly though when shopping for a high definition screen. Although some units will work better together than others, your HD ready TV should be able to connect and receive a signal from your old disc player without any problem. If you are staying in the capital of Hargeisa then the newest hotels will most likely have a player in your room if you do fancy chilling out for the night. A selection of Western films which you can choose from can sometimes be available too. The DVD player may not be the latest and greatest but should be more than up to the job and well maintained. If when you get home, you are thinking of making some DVDs for your friends, with your holiday footage on, then although all ordinary discs only record in standard definition, it is possible to buy an upscaling DVD player that will convert this to nearly high definition quality when you play it back. Either way I am sure that they will be delighted with your gift and enjoy seeing the country through your eyes. It really is a great place to visit and a holiday that you will remember for many years to come, and can relive on your HD ready television until your next visit there.
